Mrs. Norris Miller Dead.
When the Republican went to press last week we did not know that Mrs. Norris Miller, one of Decorah’s pioneer mothers, had gone to her reward. Since 1855 she had been a resident here, coming with her husband in that year to make a home where simple Christian faith and the daily practice of the Golden Rule measured out a life of peacefulness and happy anticipation of a reunion in the brighter land.
Mrs. Miller’s maiden name was Mary Stillwell and she was born in 1825. In 1847 she was married to Norris Miller. Three children were born of this union, but one only survives,--Loren J. Miller, at whose home Mrs. Miller has resided since the death of her husband. For many years she suffered an affliction of the eyes which left her practically in blindness, but a subsequent operation restored her sight and her remaining years were those of thankfulness for this blessing. During her affliction she was ever patient and uncomplaining. For some months she has been in failing health, her death being due to a general breakdown and the infirmities of old age. Death came to her on Wednesday, July 22d. The funeral was held Friday at the house, Rev. M. Willett officiating, with interment in Phelps cemetery.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she was born Jan. 23, 1825.
