The sad news was received here on Tuesday of the death of one of our former citizens, Mr. Conrad Giesen, at his home at Superior, Wis. The remains were brought here Thursday and on Friday interment was made from St. John’s church at the Catholic cemetery, where the family lot is located. At the time of his death, Mr. Giesen was fifty-nine years of age. He had been in the lumber business here many years ago, then at Calmar he owned a store, later selling that and removing to Superior, where he owned and operated a sawmill. He was married to Miss Anna Huber of this place, who with seven children survives him. The children are Henry of Calmar, Frank of Janesville, Minn., Charles, Erma, Bertha and Gertrude of Superior, and Albert of this place. The many friends who came to attend the funeral services showed in what esteem he was held by the people. He lived, not a long life, but a useful one, and by that, our reward is meted out by our Maker.

Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone in St. John’s Cemetery shows he was born in 1849; however, it appears to show he died in 1909 which is obviously an error.
