A. H. Groves Dead.
Andrew H. Groves died yesterday noon at his home on Mill street after an illness of sever years’ duration which culminated in a stroke of paralysis Monday night. We are without particulars of his life at this writing, but he is known to a large circle of acquaintances as an old resident of the county. Mr. Groves was born June 6th, 1839. He is survived by his wife and four children—Mrs. W. E. Teskey of Grenada, Minn., G. O. Groves and Mrs. Theo. Wold of Winona and J. O. Groves of Decorah. Funeral to-morrow (Friday) afternoon at the house at 2 o’clock.

OBITUARY.

Andrew H. Groves, whose death was recorded last week, was born in Vang, Vahlers, Norway, on June 6, 1839. In 1848 he came to America with his parents and settled in Wisconsin, where they resided until June, 1850. They came to Winneshiek county on the 11th of that month with the first Norwegian settlers and located on Washington Prairie. In 1859 Mr. Groves moved to Decorah and has ever since made this his home. During the Civil War he served with the 12th Iowa Infantry. For a number of years he was engaged in the farm implement business and later engaged in the life insurance business as agent for the New York Life Insurance company, an occupation which he followed actively and successfully until he was incapacitated by illness. Besides his wife and four children he is survived by one brother Halvor Halvorson of Decorah and one sister Mrs. A. K. Anderson of Washington Prairie. He was a member of the Methodist church and also of Col. Hughes Post. The funeral was held Friday afternoon at the residence, Rev. W. E. Van Buren officiating, assisted by Revs. H. H. Green and E. G. Hunt.
