Pioneer Resident Dead.
Lars O. Bergeson passed away Sunday morning at 10:40 o’clock after an illness of several months, due largely to old age. Mr. Bergeson was one of the early residents of Glenwood township where he settled in 1854, soon after coming to America. He was born in Christiania, Norway, May 11, 1825, hence had passed his 83d birthday but two weeks prior to his death. While on a return visit to his native land in 1868 he met Miss Josephine Holm who became his wife on May 3, 1869, and returned with him to make the home on Lloyd street in this city where they have since resided. To them six children--one son and five daughters—were born and all (with their mother) survive. Mr. Bergeson was in his earlier days an industrious man, and after retiring from farm life devoted himself exclusively to his trade as a carpenter. He was a good citizen. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at three o’clock, a brief service at the house preceding the public service at the United Lutheran church, Rev O. E. Schmidt officiating.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows his name spelled Bergesen. He died May 24, 1908 and is buried in the Lutheran Decorah Cemetery.
