The funeral services of Clark Adney were held here Tuesday afternoon at the Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. A. J. Gregg. He resided on a farm near Castalia and with his wife and brother, who was visiting him, had come to his father-in-law’s, Harvey French, Sunday to spend the day. In the afternoon he with a number of others went in the Yellow river bathing. He was taken with cramps and sank to the bottom of the river and drowned before help could reach him. After dragging the river for two hours with a horse rake his body was found. He was born in McGregor, Iowa, and was 22 years of age. About a year and a half ago he was married to Etta French, who is left to mourn his untimely death.

Clark Adney, who lives on Endorus Riggs’ farm north of town, with a company of friends visited friends on the Yellow river northeast of here. While there Mr. Adney went in swimming and it is supposed he took a cramp and was drowned in sight of company. Where he was drowned the water was about ten feet deep and the body was not recovered for some hours afterwards, when a hay rake was borrowed for that purpose. Mr. Adney was an expert swimmer and the water was so cold is the reason he was taken with cramps and met an untimely death.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born May 6, 1886 and died May 17, 1908. He is buried in the Frankville Cemetery.
