Raffel O. Selnes was born in Norway, Sept. 14, 1832, and died in Hesper, Iowa, Jan. 30, 1908. Mr. Seines came to America and direct to Winneshiek county in 1861, was married in 1869 to Mrs. Anna Severson who with one son, Co. Supervisor O. M. Selnes, mourn the loss of a kind husband and father. After his marriage Mr. Selnes resided in Jackson county, Minn., and in Allamakee county, Iowa, until 1890, when he came onto a farm in southeast Hesper. Several years ago he retired from the farm and has since had a pleasant home in the village, where he has commanded the respect of all who knew him. The funeral will be held at the Lutheran church this afternoon.

Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone in Hesper Lutheran Cemetery shows his date of death as Jan. 31, 1908.
