Ostin Peterson Golberg was born in Hallingdahl, Norway, Dec. 22, 1821, and died in Hesper, Iowa, Jan. 13, 1908, aged 86 years and 23 days. Mr. Golberg emigrated from Norway in 1847, and first settled at Rock Prairie, near Belot, Wis. In 1849 he was united in marriage with Miss Margreta Gullingsrud of Beloit, who had emigrated to America in 1847. They moved from Beloit to Pine Creek, Allamakee county, Iowa, where they resided four or five years, then to Newburg township, Fillmore county, Minn., where they lived until 1861, when they moved to Spring Grove, Minn., and remained for two years, after which they moved to Hesper township, where they have since made their home. In the spring of 1868 they moved onto the beautiful farm on Looking-glass Prairie, most of which is now owned by the son P. O. Golberg. Mr. Golberg had a gift for accumulating property, and for a good many years nothing but his early habit of being busy has prevented them from living on Easy St. He was a member of the Norwegian Methodist church at Newburg and its most liberal supporter and at the same time always ready to assist the Methodist church in Hesper. A good man has gone, but his influence for better things remain. There were funeral services at the house on the 18th, Rev. W. A. Rasmussen of Mabel officiating, after which the remains were taken to Newburg for interment. The wife, a son, P. O. Golberg, a daughter, Mrs. John Ask, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren will miss the loving husband, father and grandfather, but they can but be thankful that he is released from pain and has entered into eternal rest.
