Our community was greatly shocked on Monday afternoon to hear of the sudden death of George W. Daskam at his home north of town. Mr. Daskam had not been feeling well for two weeks past. He had been troubled with a pain in his side and had consulted a physician, who pronounced his trouble neuralgic but did not think it would prove serious. For the last few days he had been feeling much better. Monday forenoon he was through town with a load of household goods, moving them to the farm he had recently purchased of Walter Eddy. After dinner he was around as usual, until about three o’clock. While lying on a couch he told his wife he had that pain in his side and died almost instantly. Thid death seems unusually sad as they had just purchased Walter Eddy’s farm and had a good share of their goods moved. Fortunately they had the best of neighbors who did all they could for them. Mr. Daskam was born in Fremont township June 15, 1857, where he spent his boyhood days. Dec. 19 1883, he was married to Allie Shelmidine of this place. His home has always been in our community except a few years when he with his family resided in Spencer, Iowa. For the past two years he had lived on the Will Clark farm north of town, where he died. The funeral was held in the M. E. church here on Wednesday, Rev. Hinman of Cresco officiating. The interment was in the Kendallville cemetery, where his father is buried. He leaves a wife, one son, Walter, two daughters, Myra and Edith, four sisters and other relatives to mourn his loss. Mr. Daskam was a kind an loving husband and father, a good neighbor, one who was always ready to help any one in need. The church was crowded with friends, whose hearts go out in sympathy to the bereaved family. Those from away who attended the funeral were a number of Woodmen from Cresco, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Fifield from Fayette, Mrs. George Stephenson and son, Elma, and Edgar Shelmidine from Spencer, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dunn of Minneapolis, Frank Ragan and daughter from Leroy. They all returned to their homes on Thursday except Mrs. Stephenson, who will stay for a while with her sister Mrs. Daskam.
Mrs. Daskam and family desire to express their thanks to the kind friends and neighbors, also to the Woodmen, who so kindly assisted during the death and burial of their husband and father.
