Aged Calmar Resident Dead.

[Ossian Bee, Oct. 3d.] {this date should probably be Nov. 3d since he didn’t die until Oct. 29}
Amandus Klein, a pioneer and respected citizen of Winneshiek county died at his home in Calmar, Iowa, Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1907, aged 75 years, 4 months and 27 days, after a prolonged illness of a complication of diseases occasioned by old age. The deceased was born in Ragen Belgium June 2, 1832, and came to America in 1847, settling in Holy Cross, Wisconsin, where he resided until 1873 when he came to Winneshiek county and made his home in Calmar, In 1884 he moved to Ossian and resided here until 1900 when he removed to Calmar, remaining there until he passed to his final reward.

Amandus Klein was united in marriage with Miss Mary Wagner August 7, 1860, in Milwaukee, Wis. To this union thirteen children were born, viz.: Kathrine, Anna and Charles M., deceased; Barbara—Mrs. Heinen, Ossian; Peter F., Marion, Iowa; Marie and Micholas, Calmar, Iowa; Michael J. and Francis J., Ossian; Joseph J., Fort Dodge, Iowa; Carrie—now Mrs. John M. Cannon, St. Paul, Minn.; John A., Cresco, Iowa; Linus A., St. Paul, Minn. Besides the children he leaves an aged wife to mourn his departure, all of whom have the sympathy of the entire community.

The funeral was held this (Thursday) morning at Calmar from the church of St. Aloysius at ten o’clock, Rev. Father Ryan officiating. Those who bore the remains to their last resting place were Nicholas Meyer, Peter Meyer, Joseph D. Becker, William Steffes, Herman Bush, Sr., and Henry J. Giesen.

Mr. Klein was an honest, upright citizen contented and uncomplaining; he grudged the pleasures and possessions of no one, but was kind, benevolent and friendly to all with whom he came in contact. His death removes from our midst a man of whose kind there are not enough to make this world what it should be. May he rest in peace.
