Diebold Stoskopf Dead.
Diebold Stoskopf, one of the pioneer settlers of the county, died Tuesday night at his farm home in Section 30, Pleasant township. Mr. Stoskopf was born in Ingenheim, Alsace, Germany, in March, 1829{?}. In 1852 he came to America, locating at Sebringsville, Canada, where he remained until 1856 when he was married to Katherine Kern and moved to Iowa settling on the farm where he died. Twelve children were born of this union, all of whom, with the wife and mother, survive. The children are Samuel, Diebold John, Caroline, Kate, Mary, Emma, Tenn, Josephine, Julia, Clara and Francis. When the Arlington hotel (now the Lutheran Publishing House) was built Mr. Stoskopf backed the project financially. Although it involved him in a heavy loss, in the older residents of the city it will always remain as a monument to the builder In his home life he was a good husband and father, and he will be held in grateful memory by many acquaintances as a kind neighbor. The funeral will be held to-morrow, Nov. 1st, at eleven o’clock at Locust church.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born March 1, 1825 and died Oct. 27, 1907. He is buried in the Locust Cemetery.
