Mr. Geo. Bolles died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. H. Klemme, Nov. 2, 1906. While his death was not unexpected and on account of advanced years he was almost helpless, yet to those near and dear it leaves a vacancy that only time can heal. Mr. Bolles was born in Abinton, Conn., on January 16th, 1821, and, if he had lived until next January would have been 86 years old. He was married in 1850 to Mary A. Powers and in the spring of 1857 they came to Iowa. He had been practicing medicine but on removing to Iowa he went into the mercantile business and in Bluffton, Decorah and Ridgeway he was among the early settlers. Mr. Bolles joined the Methodist church in 1857 and was one of the founders of the Methodist church in Ridgeway. He afterwards joined the Adventists but later rejoined the Methodist church and at the time of his death was a member of Madison, S. D. In 1858 he moved to Medary, S. D., and from there to Coleman in 1880, where he was in the dry goods business for 20 years, making in all 40 years in business. About three years ago he had a stroke of paralysis but up to that time had been in excellent health. He partially recovered but not to do any active work and for the last year he has been making his home with his daughter Mrs. W. H. Klemme; and although perhaps he was a constant care, it was service cheerfully and willingly rendered, and for that very reason will be all the more missed. He leaves six children to mourn his loss: Mrs. W. H. Klemme of Ridgeway Iowa; Mrs. Clara Millward of Coleman, S. D.; Geo. Sumner Bolles of Emmett, Idaho; Merritt N. Bolles of Monterey, Mexico; Emery and Laura of New York city. Two brothers, a sister and his wife have preceded him to the life beyond. The funeral services were held Sunday from the Methodist church Rev. Royse officiating. From there the relatives drove to Decorah, laying all that remained of Grandpa Bolles at rest in the beautiful Phelps cemetery.
