Lucy Treat Torsen Dead.
A telegram to Decorah friends on Tuesday announced the death that morning at Pasadena, Cal., of Mrs. Lucy Treat Torsen. Though not unexpected, the news brought sorrow to a host of people who had been the friends and companions of the deceased through a life that had been marked by a happy, sunny disposition that had won esteem and confidence on every hand.
Mrs. Torsen was born in Decorah Aug. 4th, 1865{?}, and resided here until the fall of 1904 when she went to California, hoping that a change of climate would be beneficial to her health. But Bright’s disease had fastened itself upon her and while at times improvement was noted, it was but temporary. A few months ago she began to fail more rapidly, and from then on her sufferings were acute. To Mrs. Torsen the love of life and the enjoyment of her family and friends made her cling more closely to the hope that recovery might be her portion. Because of this her death seems particularly sad.
On February 5, 1895, deceased was married to M. T. Torsen, who with their daughter Gail, her parents and sister, Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Treat and Miss Ella Treat survive her. The remains will be brought to Decorah for burial but definite information for their arrival has not been received.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave indicates her gravestone in Phelps cemetery shows she was born in 1864.

Brought Home for Burial.
The remains of Mrs. Lucy Treat-Torsen were brought home from California for burial, reaching Decorah Sunday afternoon. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the house with interment in the Phelps cemetery. Although for several years deceased has been denied by illness the active participation in the pleasures and affairs that once were hers to enjoy, she will long be held in kindly memory by a host of friends who will miss her cheery sympathy and joyous smile. A wealth of flowers and the presence of a large number of old acquaintances at the funeral betokened only in part the sympathy that is felt for the bereaved ones.
