Thursday, October 11, 1906, at the home of his sister, Mrs. J. A. Sobolik of Calmar, Iowa, Benedict J. Gillan died after much suffering. He was twenty-one years of age, born at Lansing, Minnesota. December 18, 1885. It was less than a month ago that he came from his home and took a position in the freight depot here. He worked only a short time before he was taken ill. It is sad indeed that so soon after leaving his home full of hope and ambition, his career should be ended. With his pleasant disposition he made many friends, who regret his early demise. The funeral services were held at the St. Augustine church in Austin, Minn., Saturday, Oct. 13th.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows his nickname as “Bennie” and that he is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Austin, MN.
