OLE G. ARNESON

Ole G. Arneson, who has struggled several years against the inroads into his health made by the white plague, finally succumbed and passed away quietly Tuesday Feb. 6th, at the hour of 5:50 in the morning. Some years ago he caught a severe cold which resulted in pleurisy and this produced tuberculosis. Notwithstanding his illness he continued to work at his trade but became weaker as the years passed away until he gave up his business about two years ago.
He was a marble cutter by trade and conducted a business of his own several years. From his shop many pretty markers and monuments have found their way into the cemeteries of this and neighboring counties, and all these bear witness of his ability and honesty in the calling which he chose. Mr. Arneson was born Feb. 21, 1842, on his father’s farm Ostre Berger in Brandvold’s parish, Solör, Norway. He came to America in 1862 and has lived in or about Decorah ever since. He was married the same year to Theo Randine Hokaas, who also came from the same locality in Norway. She and three children survive hm. They have had four children of which one died in infancy. Anton, a son, has several years been pressman in “Decorah-Posten” force; Otto is managing a bank at Taylor Wis.; and Anna, a daughter, is married to Agrim Lee.
Mr. Arneson was a member of the United Lutheran church congregation in Decorah and at various times filled positions of trust in it. He was also for some years a member of the city council of Decorah. His last word to those about him was “Thanks.”
The funeral takes place Friday, Feb. 9th, at 1 P M from the home and at 2:45 from the United Lutheran church. Rev. J. O. Haugen will officiate, and the remains will be interred in the Lutheran cemetery.
