Pioneer Norwegian Settler Passes.
At an early hour last Thursday morning Nels N. Quandahl, Sr., died in his home in Decorah after an illness of several months. Mr. Quandahl was one of the pioneer settlers of Winneshiek Co He was born Oct. 14, 1828, in Hardanger, Norway, came to America in 1856, sought a residence in this county and settled on a farm in Pleasant township which remained his home until three years ago when he came to Decorah to reside. In 1860 Ingebore Kjerland became his wife and she, with two sons, Nels N. of Decorah and Ole N. of Northwood, survive. Mr. Quandahl was one of the men who make for better citizenship, honesty integrity and upright living being characteristics of his every day life. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the First Lutheran church, Rev. I. B. Torrison conducting and speaking in English and Rev. K. Seehuus of Locust speaking in Norwegian. The large attendance of old neighbors and friends bespoke the esteem in which the deceased was held.
