Ron Heins passed away peacefully at his home in Decorah, with his wife by his side, on May 13, 2021, following a courageous battle with cancer.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Ron on July 11, 2021, at the Turner Hall in Postville, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Ronald Lyal Heins was born on Aug. 29, 1962, the son of Henry Willis Heins and Linda Lou (Rubendall) Heins at home in Fayette County, Clermont, Iowa. Ron attended MFL Mar Mac High School and received his GED in 1997 from NICC. At age 16, Ron started working at Iowa Turkey Products in Postville, until the plant burned down in 2003. After that, Ron worked at Wapsie Produce in Decorah, until January of 2010. Ron then started working at Winneshiek County Recycling. Ron married the love of his life, Andrea Kay Madrigal, on Aug. 26, 2000.

Ron loved to camp, fish, and he loved the outdoors. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and the Seattle Seahawks. Ron also loved any John Wayne movie! He was quite the card shark at Euchre, and often times would whoop up on his opponents. Ron also loved the food at the Old Rossville Store and his wife’s enchiladas!

Ron is survived by his wife of 20 years, his children: Sherri Kerrigan of Caledonia, Minn., Derrick Yohe of Houston, Minn.., and Tyler Heins (special friend Jessica Sharrock) of Waterloo; and grandchildren Olivia Yohe, Kenley Yohe, Sebastian Sharrock, and Mateo Sharrock. Ron is also survived by his mother, Linda Heins of Decorah; siblings Rick (Deb) Heins of Postville, Russ (Jodi) Heins of Monona, Rodney Heins of Albia, Henrietta De La Rosa of Clermont, Gloria Frommet of Decorah, and many nieces and nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his father, Henry Heins; his sister, Robyn Heins; his maternal grandparents Leonard and Agatha Rubendall; paternal grandparents Henry and Amelia Heins; his uncles Glen Heins, Henry Heins, Ronald Dundee, and Lee Rubendall; aunts Doris Plozel and Lois Grotegut; an aunt, Verna Dundee; and cousin Donald McGuire.
