Norice Youngblood, age 93 of Decorah, IA, died on Monday, May 3, 2021 at his home in Freeport.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 8, 2021, at the Decorah Lutheran Church, 309 Winnebago Street, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Peter Kowitz presiding. Burial will be in the Freeport Cemetery with full military rites. Live stream at https://youtu.be/POaTltsKnbM

Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021 at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Ave in Decorah and also after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday morning.

Norice Reuben Youngblood was born on April 8, 1928, the son of Francis Harrison and Emma (Turner) Youngblood in Decorah, Iowa. Norice attended Decorah and Freeport Schools, receiving his high school diploma years ago at a Veteran’s Day service at the Decorah High School. Norice worked for area farmers during the War. He entered the US Army in 1948, he took training in Ft. Riley, Kansas and Georgia and served in Korea, from 1950-51. He was discharged from the reserves in 1956. Norice married Donna Olson on December 22, 1956, at the Methodist Church in Decorah. Norice worked for the Winneshiek County Engineer’s Office from 1956-94. In December 1993, he had heart surgery where they performed six by-passes, making him one in a million to have had this surgery. Norice enjoyed the outdoors; where he loved to garden and go hunting and fishing. Norice was a member of the Decorah Lutheran Church.

Norice is survived by his nine children: Susan (Wayne) Carlson, Dubuque, IA; Luann (Ross) Moen, Cresco, IA; Mary (Richard) Church, Cedar Rapids, IA; Tom (Becky) Youngblood, Decorah, IA; Rebecca (Brad) Cavett, Williamsburg, IA; Harold (Dawn) Youngblood, Decorah, IA; Christine (Bruce) Bohr, Ossian, IA; John Youngblood, Decorah, IA; and Patricia Youngblood, Cedar Rapids, IA. Many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. One brother: Marvin (Lana) Youngblood, West Union, IA. Three sisters: Carol Stewart, Clermont, IA; Betty Lou (Harold) Opsahl, Cedar Rapids, IA; Marlys Farmer, Marion, IA.

Norice was preceded in death by his wife: Donna Youngblood. Son: Edward Youngblood. Parents: Francis Harrison and Emma (Turner) Youngblood. Three sisters: Mae (Ambrose) Exey, Florence (Robert) Elliott and Julia Ann Youngblood as a child. Three brothers: Ervin Youngblood, Ralph (Betty) Youngblood and Wayne (Marjorie) Youngblood. Brother-in-law: William Farmer
