RINGOEN.
Severt R. Ringoen, the second son of Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Ringoen, was born on a farm near Ridgeway, Iowa, December 2, 1870. He was educated in the Public School here and for a while worked in Mr. G. R. Baker’s store. When eighteen years of age he became a clerk in Mr. Goddard’s dry goods store at Decorah where he remained for thirteen years. From there, he came back to Ridgeway, having accepted the position of Cashier of the Winneshiek County Bank.
On the 8th of June, 1904, Mr. Ringoen was united in marriage with Miss Grace Adams, of Decorah, and from this union one child was born, Margaret Louise, the joy and light of their home.
In 1902, he assumed his duties as cashier of our local bank and in this capacity he served continuously and faithfully until his recent illness and death.
Last January, Mr. Ringoen went to the hospital at Cresco in hopes that a surgical operation would restore him to health again; but all that medical skill could do, and the best care which the physician and the nurse could render did not avail to bring about his restoration to health.
During his illness, Brother Ringoen was a patient sufferer and was quick to appreciate and to acknowledge any kindness or service rendered to him. On the morning of May 2nd, he passed from pain and labor to reward, at the age of forty-five years and five months.
In early life, he attended the Norwegian Lutheran Church and when a boy of fourteen years he was confirmed in that church. After going to Decorah, for several years he attended services in the Congregational Church. A few years ago Mr. and Mrs. Ringoen both joined the Methodist Church at Ridgeway, but he has gone from us now and we shall miss him in the future. However, let us remember the Words of our Saviour Who Says: “I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth on Me, though he die, yet shall he live.”
There are left to mourn his death, his wife and their little daughter, Margaret, Mr. Ringoen’s mother, Mrs. M. R. Ringoen, five brothers and three sisters and many other relatives. The sympathy of our entire community, and the prayers of all among us who know the value of prayer should be freely offered in behalf of these, our friends and neighbors, whose loss and grief can only be fully measured by those who have passed through a similar experience.
The funeral service, held in the Methodist Church last Friday, was attended by a large number of people, many persons not being able to get into the building. The sermon was preached by the pastor, Rev. G. M. Shoemaker, and interment was made at Decorah.
