Kenneth N. Bergan, 87, died Feb. 15, 2003 at Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home in Decorah following a long illness. There is no visitation, the body was donated to Mayo Foundation, Department of Anatomy in Rochester, Minn.

Memorial Service is Saturday, March 1, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Decorah Lutheran Church by Rev. James Glesne. Organist is Kathy Murray, and vocalists include "Silver Memories," Richard Hendrickson, Lee Hendrickson and Vernon Lofte. Accompanist is Irmgard Ellingson; Congregational hymns are "How Great Thou Art" and "Beautiful Savior."
Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah is handling the arrangements. Memorials may be given to the Decorah Genealogy Library at 202 Winnebago Street, Decorah, Iowa 52101.

Kenneth Nordon Bergan was born March 24, 1915 in Harmony, Minn., to Martinus and Louise (Nelson) Bergan. He was raised in Decorah and graduated from Decorah High School with the class of 1932. He graduated from Luther College in 1938. He was united in marriage with Vivian Hamre December 28, 1938 at Lincoln Lutheran Church in Ridgeway. They spent their 61 years together in Chicago where their children Paul and Ruth were born, Boston, Minneapolis and, finally, Decorah.

Ken Bergan was in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked as a research engineer for Remington Rand, General Mills and Control Data from which he retired in 1980. In retirement, he returned to playing the viola with the Minnetonka Civic Orchestra and discovered the science and mysteries of genealogy.

He is survived by his daughter, Ruth (Jack) Anderson of St. Louis Park, Minn., his daughter-in-law, Lois Eberhart of Minneapolis, Minn.; four grandchildren; his brother, Allard of Decorah; and many cousins and friends. Kenneth Nordon Bergan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vivian; and son, Paul.
