Last Rites for Carl Wennes Jr. Held October 28
Carl Wennes Jr., a former Decorah man and native of Winneshiek County, died October 22 at Long Beach, Calif. at the age of 47. Mr. Wennes, who had farmed and was an auctioneer here moved to California from Decorah in 1952 and was the owner and operator of an auto sales business.
After funeral services in Long Beach, Calif. October 24, Memorial services were at Steine Funeral Home Monday, Oct. 28 with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery. Pastor Paul H Christenson of First Lutheran Church, where Mr. Wennes was a member, officiated.
Pallbearers were Harry Lensch, Ruel Headington, Curt Usgaard, John Austad, Palmer Ruffridge and Walter Hovey.
Carl Wennes Jr. was born January 29, 1927 in Highland Township where he attended rural schools. He graduated from Mabel High School and served overseas with the United States Navy. He was married at First Lutheran Church in Decorah October 10, 1946 to the former Florence Kvamme, daughter of Mrs. Inga Kvamme of Waukon. He was a member of the Elks Lodge.
Mr. Wennes is survived by his parents, Carl and Lenore Wennes, Decorah; his wife; a son, Carleton Wayne Wennes of Long Beach, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. Caryl Christianson, Virginia Beach, Va. and Mrs. George (Joycein) Moulton of San Mateo, Calif.Decorah Public Opinion, November 5, 1974
