BLANCHARD—In Canoe township, Winnesheik Co., Iowa, Sept. 5th, l895, Mrs. Isabel Blanchard, aged 53 years, 6 months and 1 day.
Miss Isabel Kinnison was born in Ohio, March 4th, 1842. In 1844 her parents moved to Green Co., Wis. and in the fall of 1849 they came to Winnesheik county, Iowa, and settled in Canoe township, being among the first settlers in the county. She was married to Orlando Blanchard on July 4th, 1863, and settled near Burr Oak. They bought out the other heirs of the Kinnison estate last fall and moved back onto the farm where she spent the most of her youth, and where she died. She made a profession of religion in early life and was for a good many years been an active member of the Advent Christian church of Burr Oak. There were but few, if any women in the county more ready to nurse the sick than she was. She was an excellent, I might say a natural nurse, and was ever ready to visit the sick, the dying, and the dead, and render needed assistance. She was taken sick about the first of July with what was supposed to be the jaundice, and in spite the best medical skill she continued to grow worse. Physicians were not agreed as to the real cause of her death. Dr. Curtis claiming it was cancer of the stomach, while Dr. Cady said she had a tumor on her liver. She leaves a husband, two sons, and two daughters, beside a mother and other relatives to mourn. The funeral was held in the large tent upon the campground, Elder Ridley preaching thy sermon. There was a very large number of mourning friends and neighbors in attendance. The grave was lined with evergreens and flowers by her neighbors. She fell asleep in hope of a glorious immortality when “the morning appeareth.”
Thy funeral text expressed her faith and hope. “As for me, I will behold thy faith in righteousness; I shall by satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness."--Ps. 17:15. COR.
