DEAN—At her home in Military township, Friday, Aug. 9th, of cancer of the stomach, Mrs. Judson E. Dean, aged 53 years.
Nancy Dean Howard was born in Franklin township, Erie Co., N. Y., Sept. 29, 1842. At the age of eight her father’s family moved to Wisconsin and a year later came to Iowa, where she has since spent her life. March 25th, 1863, she married Judson E, Dean, who died Feb. 20, 188l, leaving to her care four children, (three sons and one daughter,) all of whom survive. She had been in failing health for a period of nearly two yours, but her acute illness lasted only five or six weeks.
The funeral services were held at the Centennial church on Sunday last, a large concourse of friends and neighbors attending and testifying their friendship and esteem. Rev. F. P. Shaffer, of Decorah, officiated.
