Sylvia Amelia (Hovey) Quandahl passed away on Sunday March 14, 2021 at Evans Memorial Home after a brief illness.

Sylvia was born on September 3, 1931 in the home of her parents, Orville and Bertha (Scott) Hovey in Orleans township, Winneshiek County Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the Orleans Lutheran Church. Sylvia attended rural school in Winneshiek county through 8th grade. And then went to high school in Cresco Iowa where she graduated in 1949. After high school she went to Fairview Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis MN, graduating in September 1952. Returning to Cresco she began her career at Mercy Hospital for several years. In March of 1963 she began working at Evans Memorial Home where she worked until her retirement in July 1997.

On September 28, 1952 she married Orland (Bud) Quandahl. To this union six children were born. She was a busy woman with the six children, working as a nurse, and helping out on the family farm. The family farm was located in Orleans Township where they farmed for 45 years. In September 2001, Sylvia moved to a lovely little house in Cresco. Here she took up water aerobics and card playing at the bank as well as a card club. She continued to be active in church functions at Orleans Lutheran Church. Early 2018 was another move to Cresco Assisted Living where she lived until early 2021. She fit right in playing cards and looked forward to the weekly bingo games. Visits needed to be scheduled around these activities. However, she could not wait for visits from her grand and great grandchildren.

Sylvia is survived by her children Ruth Quandahl-Hendricks (Mike), Arlan (Jane), Dean (Linda), Carolyn Quale (Charles), Paul (Sue), and Joel (Lisa). She is further survived by her grandchildren Carmen Quandahl, Krista Baldauf (Chad), Kendal Quandahl, Paige Hoberg (Mike), Haley Williams (Scott), Lyle Quandahl, Christopher Quale, Alec Quandahl, and Lane Quandahl and four great grandchildren, Temperance, Jorik, Briella, and Knox.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Orland on October 26, 1997, and her sister, Bernice Linderbaum.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Orleans Lutheran Church, Cresco Assisted Living/Evans Memorial Home, or RHSHC Howard County Community Hospice.

A public visitation will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2021. Friends may call from 2:30pm - 6:30pm at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco. A private family service will be held at Orleans Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery.
