—Just after the REPUBLICAN had gone to press last Thursday it learned of the death in Chicago of Mrs. A. D. Stone, formerly of Decorah. On the Sunday previous she was taken suddenly and dangerously ill. The physician said there were but two alternatives— death or an operation which might result in death. The operation was performed and Mrs. Stone lived but a few hours, death coming at eight o’clock Monday morning. The only member of the family at home at the time of her death was the oldest daughter Miss Gertrude. Mr. Stone and Emery were called from the east and Miss Grace, who was on her way home from Europe, arrived Tuesday evening. The funeral was held last Friday. Former Decorah neighbors, among them Mrs. S. W. Landers, lent all the aid that was possible to the afflicted family.
