A Sad Case.
- Little Violetta Burdick, granddaughter of C. W. Burdick, died last Friday evening at eight o'clock and on Sunday afternoon was buried beside her mother. The circumstances surrounding her death were indeed very sad. In the early afternoon, after being dressed to go out riding, she went down stairs, where she was alone for a brief time. When she returned she was crying and vomiting. A doctor was sent for, and supposing it was an attack similar to two others she had had the same remedies were applied, though she seemed to be quite a little worse than on the previous occasions. At 5:30 o’clock the hired girl went to the dining room to set the table for supper, and what she found there explained the cause of the baby’s illness. Her little cup, a silver mug containing cocoa and a bowl which had contained fly paper and water were setting on a chair, part of the water gone. This was the first intimation that the child had taken poison. The doctor was called again, but as she had vomited so freely it was thought she would recover. Instead, she steadily grew worse, the poison had become absorbed by the blood and the little one died in her grandfather's arms at eight o'clock. The case is a sad one, and has brought inconsolable grief to the household in which the little victim was the beloved pet: but a fair investigation of all the facts discloses that it is one of those blameless calamities which may happen in any family.
