DIED.
PIERCE—At the family residence in Burr Oak township, on the 12th inst., of pneumonia, Mrs. VESTA HITCHCOCK PIERCE, wife of J. H. Pierce, aged 69 years, 9 months and 18 days, eldest sister of C. H. and A. C. Hitchcock, of this city.
Vesta Hitchcock Pierce was born in Broome Co., N. Y., June 25th, 1825. She was married to J H. Pierce, June 11th, 1843, and for nearly 52 years she has been his faithful wife and companion. In 1854 she, with her family moved to Iowa and onto the home farm where she has lived until the time of her death. She was the mother of seven children, of which three sons and two daughters are still living, A faithful wife, a loving mother and a kind neighbor has been called ed{sic} away by death. The funeral services were conducted at the home of the deceased and were very largely attended. Rev. Hillburn of the Burr Oak M. E. Church officiating.Transcriber's Note: Her gravestone in Burr Oak Cemetery shows the date of death as April 13.

Mrs. Pierce, wife of J. H. Pierce, in the northwest part of the township, died of pneumonia last Saturday. She was one of the early settlers.
