GEORGE DAUBNEY.
This well-known pioneer passed to his rest last Tuesday evening, aged 72 years, 7 months and 26 days.
George Daubney was born in Lincolnshire in January, 1824, and was brought to this country by his parents when only two years old. After a few years’ residence in Vermont the family removed to Michigan and became pioneers in Kalamazoo county. When arriving at manhood he went to Illinois, and was a pioneer in that state. There he met and married Miss Charlotte Kimball, who survives him. In 1854 he was attracted to Iowa, and in Pleasant township he found a bit of government land that suited him. This he purchased and opened up as a farm. A few years later he forsook farm life, and made the home in West Decorah where he has ever since resided.
When only ten years old Mr. Daubney was attacked by rheumatism, and all his life, though a man of iron constitution, he was a sufferer therefrom. Death resulted from a complication of difficulties all traceable to this disease. He has been ill for many months and death crept upon him slowly at the last.
Mr. Daubney was a man of strong native good sense; positive in character and opinions, upright in life and habits; respected by all who knew him; a strong lover of home; a warm friend where he attached his likings: exact in his business dealings, but always just and honest, and frequently liberal and generous towards any interest—public and private—which deserved his encouragement. In all these respects he was a a{sic} typical good citizen.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born January 6, 1824 and died September 1, 1896. He is buried in Phelps Cemetery.
