The pall of a tender and solemn grief was over our little town on Friday, July 30th, when the remains of Claude Whitney were borne from the home to the church, and from there to the cemetery, and with sacred rite and affectionate mourning committed to the silent resting place. Deceased was the youngest son of the late Brayton Whitney, and also a brother of our county treasurer, L. B. Whitney. He leaves a wife and two sons; the youngest of which was only five weeks old. The deceased was a man of great gentleness and sweetness of character, inspiring the respect of all who knew him, and winning the love of those who had intimate acquaintance with him. Wednesday morning, he, with his oldest son, Brayton, drove to the village store, and returned home, after which he retired to his room, to rest, where he was soon found in an unconscious state, from which he never recovered, but expired at 9 P. M. Appoplexy, of which this was the third attack, within eight months, was the immediate cause of his . The funeral services were held at the home and in the M. E. church, Rev. Hilburn officiating, assis{t}ed by Rev. J. Ridley.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born in 1871 and is buried in the Burr Oak Cemetery.
