Priske, Betty Jean (Fisher) 1940 - 2021

Betty Jean Priske, 80, of Cedar Rapids, ended her brave and courageous battle with kidney cancer on Monday, Feb. 8, 2021. A public visitation will be held from 10 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood in Cedar Rapids. A private family service will be held. All guests are required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website tribute page for Betty, under “photos and videos or media,” starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021.

She was born in Decorah, on Feb. 22, 1940, to Norman and Edna (Severson) Fisher. Betty graduated from Decorah High School in 1959 and moved to Cedar Rapids. She began working at Rockwell Collins in 1960 and retired in 1995. Betty was united in marriage to Larry Priske on June 1, 1978. Larry and Betty loved to travel and enjoyed their bus trips with friends. Betty loved to garden and tend to her beautiful flowerbeds. She was a loving, devoted grandmother. Betty enjoyed spending time with her Rockwell and Silver Sneaker friends. She was very grateful for her friendships with Pat Ryczek and Carole Fluegel over the years.

Betty will be lovingly remembered by her family: daughter, Kimberly (Christopher) Peach of Nashua, New Hampshire; step-children, David (Tracy) Priske, Melissa (Mike) Wickham, all of Cedar Rapids, Annette (Issam) Alyousef of Texas, and Laura (John) Wingler of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Joseph (Chelsey) Peach, Michael (Claudia) Peach, Andrea Peach, Cameron (Brinkley) Gibson, Shelby Gibson, Amanda (Brent) Bundy, Molly (Sam) Wickham, Zaina Alyousef, Ahmad Alyousef, Daniel Wingler, and Brian (Ashley) Wingler; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Dennis (Marcia) Fisher of Decorah; and son-in-law, Robert Gibson of Mesa, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Larry; parents, Norman and Edna Fisher; and daughter, Lynn Gibson. No plants or flowers, please. Instead, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or UnityPoint Hospice, c/o Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 520 Wilson Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404.The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Sabrina Atkins for her dedicated care of Betty, and to her caring and thoughtful neighbors who watched over her and Larry for years.
