Death of Oscar Phillips.
On Sunday morning last death came as a welcome relief to Oscar Phillips, of Burr Oak township, who has been a sufferer from cancer for many months. Realizing that there was no cure for his affliction he was anxious for the end to come and bring him rest. Mr. Phillips was born in Minnesota but from boyhood resided in Iowa. He was left an orphan at an early age and was raised in the family of Deacon Alpha Manning. About nine years ago he was married to Miss Belle Rollins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Rollins, of Decorah. She and one child survive to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father. At the time of his death Mr. Phillips was in his thirty-seventh year. Though he never made a public profession of religion his daily life was an exemplary one, and he died in the full respect and esteem of a large circle of friends and acquaintances. The funeral services were held Monday at the deceased's late residence. Rev. Joel Hilburn, of the Burr Oak M. E. church, officiating.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born Dec. 29, 1859 and died June 7, 1896. He is buried in the Burr Oak Cemetery.
