At a Ripe Old Age.
Mr. Arne B. Bratfoss, the watchmaker, died at his home on Water street Tuesday morning at an early hour from old age complicated with kidney trouble. He was ailing more or less ever since last summer, but was only confined to his bed after Friday. Mr. Bratfoss was born near Christiania, Norway, Dec. 17th, 1810, and came to America with his children in 1864, locating in Decorah. His wife died in the old country in 1855. He had nine children, five daughters and four sons. Two of the latter are dead. Of the remaining children four reside in Decorah— G. A. Bratfoss who assisted the father in his business, Mrs. Lamm, Misses Randina and Gustava Bratfoss. One son, Reinhart, lives near Ridgeway, and Mrs. Anna Johnson and Mrs. K. Tuaskand, the other daughters, reside in Black Hills and Cass., Dak. Mr. Bratfoss was a watchmaker by trade and followed that occupation up to the time of his death. He was a kindly old gentleman, quiet and unassuming.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he died Jan. 7, 1896. He is buried in Lutheran Decorah Cemetery. It also shows his one daughter’s name as Tuskind.
