Edward “Ed” Henry Bohr Jr., 83, of Ossian, Iowa died Thursday, December 24, 2020. Ed was born July 10, 1937 to Edward Sr. and Hildegard (Becker) Bohr in Ossian, Iowa. He graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School in Ossian, Iowa. Ed joined and served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1960.

Ed was united in marriage with Jeanette Moen in 1963. Five sons were born to this union. Ed worked construction his entire life, the last 23 years for Gee Grading of Cedar Rapids, Iowa as a Finish Blade Operator. He joined the International Union of Operating Engineers in 1978 and has been a proud member ever since. Ed retired at age 62 and pursued his passion of working with horses. Ed always said “Life is good, but better with a horse”.

Surviving Ed are his four sons, Mark Bohr of Ossian, Richard (Jennifer) Bohr of Ham Lake, Minnesota, Jerry Bohr of Ossian, Iowa and Rob Bohr of St. Ansgar, Iowa; four grandchildren, Austin (Meghan) Bohr, Kayla Bohr and Montana and Cavin Bohr; sister, Jane (Bill) Shimek of Calmar, Iowa; and one brother-in-law, Gene Glover.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Hildegard Bohr; wife, Jeanette Bohr; son, Jeffrey Bohr; brother, James Bohr; and his sister, Dorothy Glover.

A Visitation will be held from 9-11 am on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa with Rev. Daniel Knipper as the celebrant.

Burial with military honors will be at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

Due to Covid-19, mask and social distancing is required.

Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Ossian, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.
