Died. Merrill – At the family home, north of Decorah, on the 27th ultim., after a long and painful illness, MRS. M.H. MERRILL, aged 63 years.

Sarah L. Hardiman was born at Christ’s Church, England, in 1830, and came to this country in early life with her parents. Their home was in Oneida county, N.Y., and in 1856 she was married. The year following Mr and Mrs. Merrill came to town, and founded the home which yielded to them thirty-seven years of happy, congenial association. Into that home came four children, all of whom are living and grown to man and womanhood. Mrs. Merrill united with the church when about fifteen years old and her life has been that of a consistent, faithful follower of the Master whose cause she early espoused. Doath came to her in his slowest, most painful form, and when his final summons arrived she truly entered into a rest for which she longed and was fully prepared.

Funeral services were held at the family home Saturday afternoon. Rev. E. Adams, her old and beloved pastor, was called from Waterloo to officiate, the bearers and others participating were those suggested by her, and services were such as she indicated. The attendance of friends who bore her in kindly remembrance was unusually large; and thus was laid to rest the patient sufferer, the faithful wife and loving mother whose years of usefulness had been many, and whose virtues will long be remembered by all who knew her.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a grave shows she was born in 1831 and died in 1898, and is buried at Phelps Cemetery.
