TODD – At the homestead in Winnesheik county three miles northwest of Kendallville, at one o’clock Sunday morning, June 25, Mrs. Jane Todd, wife of Mr. Christopher Todd, in the 57th year of her age.
Mrs. Todd was born in Ireland, July 4th, 1837, coming to America at the age of 10. At 14 she united with the Congregational church. She was married Feb. 7th, 1866. Three children were born of the union, one daughter surviving, a son and a daughter dying in infancy. Mrs. Todd was ill for three months previous to her death. Her nephew, Dr. Geo. W. Webster, of Chicago, was summoned two weeks ago, pronouncing the disease cancer of the liver, and predicted an early and fatal termination. In conversation with her relatives a few days before her death, she expressed herself as willing to dies, and ready for her last home, and spoke of God’s goodness and care in sparing her much pain.
Funeral services were held at the residence, Monday morning at 10:30, a very large number of friends being present. Mrs. Todd was universally respected and beloved by those who knew her, and the large circle of friends and acquaintances sympathize with the husband and daughter in the affliction which removes a devoted wife and loving mother, but leaves the precious memories of the past and the sweet hopes of the reunion. – Cresco Republican.
