Mrs. ERASTUS V. ANDRUS, one of the pioneer mothers of Decorah, died at her home in this city, at 2 o’clock last Monday morning, aged 70 years 4 months, and 17 days. She was born in Ohio in 1827, and her life has been entirely that of a pioneer, under conditions often far removed from the usual comforts of life. In childhood her family came out to Illinois; and forty- six years ago with her husband she came to Iowa and settled first in Canoe township. Two years later they moved into Decorah, where she has spent a life of more than unusually severe labor. Hers was a life of privations borne with patience and even joyousness. Her husband died in 1891, after years of mental illness, in which she ministered to his wants with the patient regard of the true wife. Four daughters and one son, out of a family of ten children, survive her.
