Mrs. Josephine Johnson Darling, wife of Garnavillo Darling, died at the family home in Hesper township, two miles from this village, at seven o’clock this morning from dropsy. Mrs. Darling was in her 42d year and was married to Mr. Darling twenty years ago. Three daughters, Myrtle, Agues and a baby six weeks old, with the father, survive to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother. In this they are joined by a host of friends who appreciated her kindness and goodness of heart. The funeral service will be held Thursday afternoon at two o’clock.

Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone (per Find a Grave) in Burr Oak Cemetery shows the spelling of her name as Josaphene. It shows she was born Feb. 25, 1857 and died Nov. 23, 1897.
