Death of Mrs. John DeCow.
Mary D. DeCow, wife of Hon. John DeCow, died at her home in Military township, on Monday, Nov. 8th, aged 70 years, 10 months and 5 days, and was buried from the Centennial church yesterday afternoon, Rev. A. G. Wilson, of Decorah, officiating.
Mrs. DeCow was born in Norfolk, Canada, Jan. 3d, 1821, and was united in marriage with John DeCow June 10th, 1850. On the 29th of the same month the newly wedded couple landed at Moneek, then the center of population in this county, and began a citizenship terminated by death after more than 47 years. They lived on a farm adjoining Moneek for three years, and they moved to the farm home which has been theirs ever since in Military township. About twenty years ago the deceased united with the Methodist church, and has always been a consistent member. As a wife, mother and friend she was always faithful, and the poor or needy never turned unsatisfied from her door. She raised a family of three sons, one of whom proceeded her to the other side. Her husband, two sons, and a sister residing in Canada, survive her.
