Marjorie S. Dehning, age 94, of Ossian, Iowa and formerly of Decorah, Iowa, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at the Ossian Senior Hospice.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 21, 2020 at Decorah Lutheran Church with Rev. Peter Kowitz officiating. Burial will be in Canoe German Methodist Cemetery in rural Decorah.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, one hour before the service, at Decorah Lutheran Church.

In consideration of concerns regarding Covid-19, wearing of a mask and social distancing is required.

Marjorie Sandora (Fretheim) Dehning was born on September 1, 1926 in Spring Grove, Minnesota, the daughter of Carl and Cora (Nesheim) Fretheim. She was baptized and confirmed at Big Canoe Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, Iowa. She attended country school, part of Winneshiek Country Schools, through 8th grade, graduating in 1940, and then graduated from Decorah High School.

Marjorie was united in marriage to Bernell Lowell Dehning on October 24, 1948 at Decorah Lutheran Church by Rev. M.A. Egge. They were blessed with six children: Linda, Ron, Daryl, Denise, Lowell and Alan.

Marjorie worked as a cook at the Cliff House in Decorah for many years, and then was a cook at the Hay Market. She was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church and was active in circle. She helped Bernell farm, raising their children, and she had a very big garden. She liked flowers, spending time with her family, their pets, cats and dogs, and loved going to birthday parties.

Marjorie became a resident of Ossian Senior Hospice on March 27, 2013.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bernell Dehning on September 27, 1998; and one daughter, Linda Waits on August 3, 2016.

Marjorie is survived by five children: Ron (Jill) Dehning of Postville, IA, Daryl (Pam) Dehning of Calmar, IA, Denise (Gary) Balik of Waucoma, IA, Lowell Dehning of Ossian, and Alan (Ronda) Dehning of Cresco, IA; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one niece, Rita (Ron) Olsen of Cresco; and one nephew, Fred (Julie) Walter of Cresco.
