OBITUARY.
CHARLES HENRY PERRY WAS born near Elizabethtown, Essex county, N. Y. Aug. 31,1837, and died near Burr Oak, Hesper township, in Winnesheik county, Aug. 25, 1897, aged 59 years, 11 months and 25 days.
Charles Perry came to Iowa in youth, and here he spent most of his life. He was married at Springwater, Iowa, to Lois Esther Tilden, Oct. 10, 1866. One child, Hattie Orilla Perry-Gripman,, blessed this union. A few years after the marriage Mr. Perry and wife moved to Dundee, Ill., where the mother died, and the daughter Hattie was born, Nov. 18, 1871. He resided in Dundee three years. Coming to Burr Oak March 2l, 1877. Mr. Perry was married at Canoe tp., Winnesheik county, to Miss Martha Henry, who, with two children, Frank and Clifford, survive, and who mourn the demise of a most indulgent father and faithful husband
One week before the closing hour of his life Mr. Perry had a premonition as to his death, in that on hearing of the death of a person not far away, said "The next gathering will be here." True it is. As a neighbor he was obliging, even sacrificing, for the comforts of others. As a brother always helping; as a husband he never forgot his marriage vows; as a father careful, and as a friend cordial and steadfast. Think you that you will not miss him? Yea verily.
Our hearts are sad to-day, but we look up through these tear-dimmed eyes
Oh, what pence we often forfeit,
Oh, what endless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry,
Everything to God in prayer.
