Ella May Potts was born in Hesper, January 31st, 1876, and died July 22, 1897. The funeral services were held at the Friends’ church, on the 24th. May, as she was familiarly called, never was in the enjoyment of good health, and a number of times during the past few years, she had seemed about to “step into the beyond”, but her unfailing cheerfulness had made friends of all who knew her, and she seemed loth to bid them farwell. She was member of the L. A. S. of the S. of V and of the I. O. G. T., and was always ready, so far as her strength would permit, to do her part in all good work. The largely attended funeral expressed the love and esteem of the community for the deceased, as well as their sympathy with the bereaved father, mother and brother. The remains, enclosed in a flower bedecked white casket, were borne to their last resting place by six young ladies and six young gentlemen, May’s former schoolmates.

Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone in Hesper Public Cemetery appears to show her name as Mary Ella.
