Sudden Death at Ft. Atkinson.
Coroner Gibson was called on to perform his first, official act of 1897, last Saturday, by holding an inquest upon the remains of Mrs. Anna Bartlett, wife of Ed. Bartlett. The evidence introduced showed that after a very happy married life of less than a year Mrs. Bartlett had died very suddenly the day before, from some unknown cause. This was the testimony of Mrs. Bartlett’s mother, and Dr. Horton, called as medical witness, said it would be impossible to tell the exact cause of death without a post mortem examination. This was not desired. Some ten years ago Mrs. Bartlett’s father died under very similar conditions as did his daughter, except that he was at work alone in the timber when death claimed him. It was thought that some heart difficulty caused his death, and it is to be supposed his daughter inherited a similar affliction from him. She was a young woman, twenty-six years old, and highly esteemed by all who knew her. The mother and husband have the sympathy of the community in their affliction.
