Mrs. J. H. Burhans died at her home here Sunday evening, Jan. 24th, of pneumonia of but a few days’ duration. Sarah A. Davis was born in Rennsalaer Co., New York, Sept. 7th, 1828, and came to Rock county, Wis., with her parents in the early days of that state. She was married to J. H. Burhans in 1852. In 1855 they came to Iowa, settling in Winnesheik Co., near the present site of Ossian. Since that time they have resided in Clayton and Allamakee counties, finally returning to Winnesheik county in 1888 where they have since resided. During her lifetime Mrs. Burhans was ever ready to minister to the wants of the sick and afflicted, was a good neighbor, a good wife, a kind mother and had a host of friends, all of whom deplore her loss. The funeral occurred from the M. E. church at Postville yesterday, Tuesday, at 12:30 p. m., the Rev. Parkin, assisted by Rev. Bargelt, officiating. Again we are reminded that the pioneers are rapidly passing away.
