OBITUARY,
Sunday morning last, at the family home in West Decorah, after a brief illness from tuberculosis, Gus. Asseln, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. John Asseln, passed away, aged 23 years and 7 months.
To many it was scarcely known that Gus. was ill and his death came to them as a shock. He had always been robust and healthy up to within a few weeks of his death, and less than ten days before was on the streets. In the winter he attended a dance and, coming out into the chilly air while warm and perspiring, caught a severe cold. Not thinking that it would be serious he refused to see a physician, and cold developed into tuberculosis.
His parents, four sisters and two brothers survive him. The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at one o’clock. A profusion of flowers and a number of handsome designs expressed the sympathy that many friends felt for the family, and the esteem in which the young man was held.

Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone in Phelps Cemetery shows he was born Sept. 18, 1874 and died April 24, 1898.
