Ole P. Tenold, one of the old residents of this county, died at his home in Calmar, from liver and heart difficulty, on Friday, the 8th instant, Mr. Tenold was born in Sogn, Norway, on the 1st day of Deccember,{sp} 1823, and came to this country in 1844. He located in Chicago where for the greater part of his time he followed the shoemaker’s trade until 1855, when he came to this county and settled on the farm owned by his son O. A. Tenold, located between Calmar and Conover. Mr. T. had prospered in his business in Chicago and put most of his savings into land. This materially aided subsequently in making him well-to-do. After his first two years on the farm Mr. Tecold moved into Calmar and set up again in the boot and shoe business, which he conducted in connection with the grocery business, until 1867 when he moved upon another farm one mile north of town which he owned until his death. After twenty years more of farming Mr. Tenold bought half a block of ground in town, built a roomy and comfortable dwelling house upon it, and returned again to Calmar in 1887, whore he resided continuously since, serenely enjoying in his old age the fruits of a well earned completency until the end came. Mr. Tenold was married in Chicago to Miss Mary Orbedal in 1852 and they were not parted until death came to the faithful wife on the first day of October last. Eleven children were born to them, of whom five still remain. Mr. Tenold was a quiet though genial man, was always ready to aid in any public enterprise of merit, and had a kind word of greeting for everybody. Up to the time of the death of his wife he seemed unusually active and robust for one of his age, and though he had passed, by several years, the allotted “threescore and ten” one would have to look sharply to detect any trace of gray in his dark hair. It appears now, however, that for a number of years he had had some heart trouble and after the death of his wife he perceptibly failed and did not rally till the end came. The surviving children, John P., of Flandreau, S. D., Ole A. and Diana, who lived with their father, and Mrs. Peter A. Kittllsby and Emily, of Buffalo. N, Y., were all present at the funeral which was one of the most largely attended that over occurred here. The services were held at the Norwegian Lutheran church, Rev. V. Koren officiating, and the body was laid to rest among his old neighbors gone before, many of them the Scandinavian pioneers of this vicinity.
