The angel of Death has again visited our community and removed a valued citizen. DeWitt Smith died at his home in Frankville, Saturday night, Dec. 9, 1899, aged 74 years, 5 months and 22 days. He was born June 17, 1825, in Ripley Co., Indiana. He grow to manhood at that place and was married at the age of 25 years to Mrs. Nancy Webster, who preceded him to the other world two years ago. He came to Iowa in June, 1855, living 45 years near Frankville, six years of his life being spent in the town of Frankville. Of the three children born to this couple two boys died in infancy. Only one survives, which is David, who with his family lived with the deceased at the time of his death. The funeral occurred at the Presbyterian church to-day (Tuesday,) Rev. Gregg conducting the services. The deceased was a member of the Masonic order of this place, and the brother Masons took charge of the funeral, which was made in the village cemetery.
