Another Pioneer Gone.
At his home in the southwestern part of Decorah township, on Tuesday, Aug. 29th, there passed to his final rest O T. Vik, one of the pioneer settlers of this county. Mr. Vik was born in Norway, Oct. 8th, 1825, and came to America in 1854, settling on the farm where he died. He was twice married and his widow and six children survive him. The funeral service was held at the family home Friday last at 2 p. m., Rev. H. G. Stub officiating at the house. At the grave Rev. E. O. Vik, son of the deceased, also spoke. The funeral was one of the largest that has been hold in this vicinity in years, friends and neighbors coming from far and near to pay their respects to one whom they loved and honored.
Mr. Vik was one of the first persons the senior editor of the REPUBLICAN learned to know when he came here in 1860, and grew to esteem the modest worth, upright character and genuine manhood that was inherent to his nature.
