MRS. JOHN GREER.
Departed this life Tuesday, July 25th, at her home in this city, Mrs. John Greer, in her 70th year.
Mrs. Greer, whose maiden name was Hannah Stringer, was born in Sherrington, C. E. Dec. 12th, 1829. In January, 1857, she married and came directly to Decorah, which has ever since been her residence. Seven children were born to her; of these one died in infancy and three sons and three daughters, viz: Mrs. C. E. Felt, of Chicago, Miss Lillie and Mrs. Lizzie Parman, of Decorah, H. R. Greer, of Hampton, Neb., and R. H. Greer, of Sioux City, and Wallace Greer survive her. All but the latter are present to pay their last honors to a revered mother. The wives of the two elder sons accompany them. Five brothers also survive her: two of them reside in Canada, another lives in Wayne, Neb., still another, Richard (who is also here to attend the funeral,) lives in Chicago, and James Stringer of this city complete the number.
Mrs. Greer bad been somewhat of an invalid for more than five years; but her strong will supported her until a few days after the marriage of her youngest daughter, when growing infirmities compelled her to yield and she went to her bed, and from thither to the last resting place of all. Death resulted from a general debility growing out of lung and kidney difficulties, with complications of an appopletic nature in the last three days.
Deceased was originally a member of the Protestant Episcopal church, but after coming to Decorah she united with the Methodist church, of which she has since continued to be a consistent member. Her home life was sweet, and true. She made for husband and children a happy home, and they now bless her as one who was all that a wife and mother could be in these endearing relations.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family residence.
