Death of an old Resident.
From 1863 to 1883 R. W. Straley was a resident of Decorah, going from here to Missouri, where he lived until April 22d last. A copy of the Springfield (Mo.) Republican brings intelligence of Mr. Straley’s death on that date, and makes this brief report of his life.
Mr. Straley was born in Waynesboro, Pa., February l5th, 1834. He learned the trade of carriage painter and trimmer in his father's shop and made that his life’s business. In 1855 he went to Virginia and in October, 1856, he was married to Catherine L. Shank, of Martinsburg, W. Va. Ten children were born to them, five of whom have preceded him to the home beyond. Five children, three sons and two daughters, and his widow survive him and were with him during his last illness to minister to his wants and relieve his suffering.
He joined the Methodist Episcopal church in 1857 and has been active in church work all his life. He joined the Odd Fellows’ lodge as soon as he was old enough and was prominent in the organization, both as a member and an officer.
In 1863 he moved to Iowa, remaining there until October, 1883, when he located in Springfield.
He was a trusted and highly respected citizen, a zealous worker in the church and Sunday school, an honored member of the I.O.O.F. lodge and a devoted husband and father.
During his residence here he was the trimmer and painter for Geo. Wendling. Mrs. Straley is a sister of Mrs. H. I. Brickner, of Decorah.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Maple Park Cemetery in Springfield, MO.
