BERNHARD KORNMEYER.
Another old and valued citizen of Decorah has gone to his last resting place. Bernhard Kornmeyer was born in Steinach, Baden, Germany, May 4th, 1828, and died in Decorah March 31st, 1899, aged 70 years, 10 months and 27 days.
In 1856 Mr. Kornmeyer came to this country and made a home in Philadelphia. In 1860 he married Mary Danenfelser of that city, and after a brief residence in Cleveland they came to Decorah, Mr. K being called here by a contract he had secured of brickmaking for Luther College. After this contract was finished he bought the land one mile west of the city, where he has since resided, and engaged in his trade as a brickmaker. To him were born eight children; one died in youth, and three remain at home with the mother; the others are Chas. Kornmeyer, Mrs. Linkenheil, Mrs. P. Hess and Mrs. H, McCusker.
Death resulted from dropsy after an illness of five months. The funeral services was held from the Catholic church, of which he was a member, on Tuesday morning at 9:30 o’clock. And thus another worthy citizen who had rounded out a useful life as a husband, parent, friend, passes from the seen to the unseen land.
