—Last week’s Preston papers reported the death of Judge Dryden Smith at his home in Spring Valley. He was a noted character, and one of the first lawyers to locate in Decorah; but left here in 1859 for Spring Valley, where he has since resided. For eight years he held the office of Probate Judge of Fillmore county.

Transcriber's Note: Find a grave shows he was born March 10, 1826 and died Feb. 22, 1899. He is buried in the Spring Valley Cemetery.
